Our mission
Intelligence is infrastructure. Infrastructure should be open.
The Aitherium Foundation exists to keep the deepest layer of the AI stack — the operating systems, models, and knowledge that agents run on — in the public domain, built in public, governed in public.
The problem we exist for
The last decade made AI a service: you do not own the model, the weights, the data, or the interface — you rent all four, and the terms can change at any time. The foundation's premise is that intelligence is becoming infrastructure, and infrastructure in a society that values its own independence cannot be a leased subscription held by a handful of companies.
What we do about it
We build and steward the open layer: an agent operating system anyone can run on their own hardware, models whose weights are published, and an operating doctrine that teaches anyone to direct agents themselves. The work is not a demo of openness — the foundation's own fleet runs on it.

Built in the open, from the inside
The infrastructure that runs the foundation's own work is the same open platform we publish. Every service, every tool, every fix the fleet needs lands in a public repository first. The fleet is the daily stress test: what the foundation runs is what you can run.

Self-hostable first
Every capability must run on ordinary hardware — a laptop, a workstation, a box in a closet. Hosted services are conveniences, never prerequisites. If a feature only works in our cloud, it is not finished.

Publish the weights, not just the code
A model without weights is a press release. Models ship with published weights — small on-device brains and larger coder and reasoning models alike — loadable through open tooling on ordinary hardware. The serving stack is open too.

Publish the recipe, not just the cake
Shipping the software is not enough — we publish the doctrine, the playbooks, and the lessons from running it, so the knowledge compounds outside our walls. The operator doctrine is a real, installable pack distilled from years of real sessions — not a blog post about how smart we are.

Distribution is the point
A commons nobody runs is a museum. The community's nodes host the network, the community's rooms carry the knowledge, and the community's contributions grow the ecosystem. The foundation keeps the commons open and maintained — the community keeps it alive.
Ownership is the guarantee
Every promise about AI safety, alignment, and fairness is only as strong as the ability to check it. With open weights you can audit the model; with open source you can audit the system; with a self-hostable stack you can take your intelligence with you no matter what happens to any company — including this one. The community is the reason that guarantee stays real: a network hosted by thousands of people cannot be switched off by one.
